Keeping Fit

Simple Steps...

Is it time for another celebration? How about the celebration of a new you. This is the year to pay tribute to your health and make wellness a part of your everyday routine. Below, we’ve outlined three basic principles to keep in mind as you adopt your new resolutions. We hope these will help you focus on what is important and keep you motivated all year long.
Aim High

Get Moving!

Regular physical activity builds endurance, improves fitness and promotes an overall sense of well-being. The more muscle you have, the faster your body burns fat. Work towards accumulating an hour of moderate physical activity (in which you are breathing quickly, but able to maintain a conversation) on most – if not all – days of the week. You don’t have to complete the hour all at one time. Build in other activities as you can over the course of the day, such as climbing stairs, dancing, doing aerobics or vacuming the house. If you haven’t been active, start slowly and work up to your goal.
Balance Your Meals

Aim For Balance

When it comes to sensible eating, balance is key. If you know you’ll be eating richer, higher-kilojoule foods at a dinner party, cut back at breakfast and lunch. You can also factor in some extra physical activity – take a fast-paced walk or tackle a physical chore such as vacuuming. One of the best ways to keep your food intake in check is to watch your portion sizes. Remember: Every day doesn’t have to be perfect, but look at the big picture and aim for balance over time.

Go For Variety

Shake things up! Add a variety of taste, texture and colour to your meal by experimenting with new foods and new combinations. Fruits and vegetables are two of the best ways to add flair and distinction to a meal. They also provide key vitamins and minerals, not to mention some wonderful taste experiences. So, try avocado on your burger or top your morning cereal with yoghurt and peaches. Not only will you make new discoveries, you’ll also increase your motivation by realizing that balanced meals can be adventurous and delicious.
